Property investment, Paris is an attractive city Category: Real estate news Chapter: Real estate in French towns Paris was ranked 1st most attractive city for property investment in Europe in 2007 but has been relegated to fifth place in 2008 behind Moscow (1st), Istanbul (2nd), Hamburg (3rd) and Munich (4th). According to a study published on 11th March by the Urban Land Institute and Price Waterhouse Coopers during the 21st MIPIM (World real estate trade fair) held in Cannes, Moscow took the trophy in 2008. This performance is explained by strong growth in the Muscovite rental market and in the property offer, both in the accommodation and business sectors. The ranking is more based on investment recommendations than on the related level of risk. For Moscow and Istanbul are still considered as high risk cities in property investment terms, the Russian capital is indeed ranked as the most risky. On the other hand, Paris remains ranked as the least risky city in Europe. Further to the global financial and property crisis which has led to restrictive credit conditions and also to investors looking to diversify their portfolios, the investment market in France has declined significantly since the beginning of the year. However, although foreign investment volumes have recorded a major decline, French investments have grown proportionally and now represent over half of the number of transactions.
